Tazza in rosso antico marble on a black and verde antico marble pedestal. Attributed to Benedetto Boschetti. This vase is modelled after a Roman labrum: a water basin that stood in the caldarium of a bathhouse. The marble kept the water cool and with a wooden bowl bathers were able to sprinkle themselves with the fresh water. Labrum (= lip) refers to the shape of the upper edge. Some restorations to the scale.
