Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707-1788): 20 old-colored engravings from “L’Histoire naturelle des oiseaux”. Buffon was the intendant of the Jardin des Plantes in Paris from 1739 to 1788. He became known as author of the monumental series “Histoire naturelle, générale et particulière”, which was printed in 36 volumes between 1749 and 1788. These 20 beautiful engravings come from one of the birds-devoted volumes. Sheet size: 21,1 x 27,3; image size: circa 14,5 x 19 cm.
