After my university studies in Leiden, Bordeaux, and Bologna, and alongside my work as a lawyer, I followed my passion and founded my antiques business in 2000. Under the name Robert Schreuder Antiques, I built up a collection specializing in the Grand Tour, Neoclassical and Empire periods — eras that perfectly unite my fascination with European history, art and travel.

My time in Italy, in particular, left a deep and lasting impression. The architecture of Rome, the light of Venice, and the music of Verdi and Rossini awakened a passion that continues to guide everything I do — from collecting and lecturing to designing cultural journeys that celebrate Italy’s artistic and musical heritage.

I have always loved telling stories — about art, people, and places — and sharing them with others. Whether through lectures, personal encounters, or the journeys I curate, I aim to bring history to life and to connect the beauty of the past with the curiosity of the present.

Alongside my work as an antiques dealer, I have contributed to the Dutch art world through advisory and board roles and regularly give lectures for private audiences and museums on topics such as the Grand Tour, the Empire period, and historic villas in Rome. In addition, I am a passionate admirer of classical music and opera and am actively involved in organizing music events in both the Netherlands and Italy.

My collection reflects a century of European history, from 1750 to 1850: the era of young aristocrats discovering Rome and Naples, of Napoleon’s campaigns, and of the enduring influence these stories had on artists, architects, and designers. Over the years, I have had the privilege of selling works to institutions such as the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, the Dutch National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
