Beauty to scale
Beauty to scale A fascination for architecture through scale models, prints and drawings. As an antiques dealer, I always try to connect past and present by showing how the arts and our knowledge of the past can influence and enrich our present lives. Classical architecture illustrates this extremely well. Over the centuries, people have drawn inspiration from the architecture of the past to shape functionality and beauty in the present: the pure beauty of classical architecture, the harmony of its proportions and simplicity of its lines are as inspiring now as they were in the Roman era. Even in today’s hectic society, we see architects building houses that bear witness to the past. When interior and stage decorator Rudolph Lutgens showed me his beautiful hand-crafted contemporary models of classical buildings, the idea occurred of combining these models with models and works on paper from over two centuries. This resulted in an exhibition on the influence of classical architecture through the centuries, illustrated by means of scale models, prints and drawings.
