Michelangelo Maestri (died 1812): gouache on cardboard ‘Female centaur and an adonis’. For his works Maestri was much inspired by the frescoes from Pompeii and Herculaneum. This gouache was based on a fresco in the triclinium of the Villa of Cicero in Pompeii, which fresco is now kept in the Archaeological Museum in Naples. Maestri's works were very popular with the young travellers on their Grand Tour in Rome.
